If you're in any way connected to webdesign – or simply a curious fellow – then you probably heard about CSS Reboot. If you haven't, very quickly, it's an event where thousands of webdesigners around the world coordinate an effort and redesign their websites and present the results during the same day. This time, November 1st was the target.
Browsing the galleries, you can obviously see it was a success. Lots of rebooters and some very high quality layouts. I've been browsing the galleries on and off ever since the reboot and i've chosen to mention a couple of entries i thoroughly enjoyed.
Avalonstar.com
This is definitely one of my favourite websites at the moment. As if the old design wasn't good enough, Bryan Veloso outdid himself and presented his readers with an extremely well done redesign realignment. I particularly love the borders on the boxes. I don't know if it's just me, to it looks like the border is a support for a piece of glass that is the white transparent bit. Love it. Not only it's a beautiful website, it also has outstanding content. If you haven't subscribed his feed, do it now.

As soon as I laid eyes on this layout, i was in love. I haven't been a fan of dark layouts for a while now, but this one is certainly an exception. Starting with the logo, passing by the bright pinky colors for headers finishing with the dirty background and the high-contrast photo in the header. It's an all-around feast for the eyes. Brilliant execution. And to top it off, the next to last post was titled Quake4
. I'm a sucker for quake-related stuff, so i read it and subscribed the feed after leaving a comment. I like his style, i like his subject – gaming – and i like the layout. He even provides media associated with posts. Awesome. Probably my best find during this CSS Reboot. Avalonstar was already one of my favourites.

What attracted me most about this layout was the mix between attractive design and humour. I actually chuckled when i saw it for the first time. As far as the content goes, i'm not sure, haven't seen enough yet. I like the portfolio, though. Very interesting designs, so i guess it verifies the author's abilities. He's not only a designer with a sense of humour. The underlying code is pretty well written as well.

I really dig how the bright green and that dark blue combine to produce an attractive layout in this one! It's a multi-author community commenting on web trends. I'm sold. I'll surely be coming back often. I feel like the fixed bar on the right is under-valued with that information in there, but still, it's a cool effect and brings focus to the inline content. But my favourite use of fixed positioning is still at snook.ca. Sorry.
(This is another re-alignment, not really a re-design.)
This place could use a reboot too... It's been over 10 months since i finished the layout and started the CMS development, so even though it hasn't been online for that long, it already feels kind of "old".
